The 2009 Berwick Food Festival marks the culmination of an eighteen month project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Throughout the Festival weekend we will be holding exhibitions, displays, re-enactments and other activities to illustrate Berwick’s rich food heritage. The main theme is Berwick’s Victorian food heritage, inspired by the shows organised in Berwick in 1841 and 1854 by the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.
On Saturday, take the opportunity to visit 14 historic buildings that are rarely open to the public. Berwick’s Heritage Open Days are coordinated by Berwick Civic Society, with support from English Heritage and the North of England Civic Trust. Some of the sites that are the venues for food-related displays and costumed scenes are open on both Saturday and Sunday, including the Town Hall, an ice-house and a salmon fishing shiel.
